The George Family entered the transportation industry in 1948 when transportation became a necessity for rural children to get to and from school. In that time period, it was common for the local farmers to transport students in between their daily farming duties; Leon George and his wife Esther did exactly that! They began by offering transportation for Towamensing Township Schools to eventually contracting with Palmerton Area School District. Leon and Esther George also offered charter busing to bingo halls and baseball games during this time! In 1989, the second generation took over operation of the company with Leon A. George II, the current owner of the company. During the time of this transition with the help of his wife Danielle, Leon A. George II worked to slowly turn the company’s services to focus more on school busing needs rather than the late nights that charter trips often provided. Leon II and Danielle found it important to have extra time to be home with their budding family. Leon A. George II continued to carry the contract for Palmerton Area School District’s school bus transportation while also providing some routing for Jim Thorpe Area School District during this time. In 1995 the company expanded greatly by adding a second location, the previous home of the well respected Borger Transportation in Lehighton. This expansion brought two communities together as Palmerton Area School District and Lehighton Area School District both contracted their school busing needs to Leon A. George II School Buses, Inc. (Palmerton) and George’s Transportation Company, Inc. (Lehighton) respectively. Both company’s now owned by Leon A. George II, allowing for a seamless transportation experience between these neighboring communities. As the school bus routing for the two contracted districts became steadfast within the communities and their own children no longer needing constant attention, Leon II and Danielle decided to reopen the company’s charter services.
